Gay Story

This piece, like many of Kogan’s works, serves as a representation for multiple facets. On one side, “Gay Story” personifies the gay community, in all of its glory and hardship. The strength of the men’s embrace conveys the refuge they seek in each other, the mutual experience of living in the same environment that is reluctant to accept the truth of their union. There is another side to this sculpture, that which is a prominent feature of Kogan herself. In a sense, “Gay Story” stands for the duality of character, showing the sculptor’s humbling, kind side contrasted with a shield of aggression and complication.
